West RFA Sawlog Farming Project
The West RFA Sawlog Farming Project (2002) was part of Growing Victoria's Forests - an initiative of the State Government of Victoria. The Project facilitated the growing and management of native hardwoods on previously cleared agricultural land for sawlog production.
It aimed to demonstrate the economic, social and environmental benefits of private forestry, supply a future sawlog resource to complement that available from publicly owned State forest, and support the forest product industries of Western Victoria.
The tree species promoted by the project were:
- Corymbia maculata (Spotted Gum)
- Eucalyptus cladocalyx (Sugar Gum)
- Eucalyptus globulus (Tasmanian Blue Gum)
- Eucalyptus nitens (Shining Gum)
- Eucalyptus obliqua (Messmate)
- Eucalyptus obliqua x Eucalyptus regnans (Otway Messmate)
- Eucalyptus tricarpa (Red Ironbark)
