Future Fisheries Strategy: Proposals for Reform Paper

The Department of Primary Industries is developing a Future Fisheries Strategy that will set out a vision for fisheries management in Victoria for the next 15 years.

Your comment is now being sought on the proposals for reform to help shape the Future Fisheries Strategy.

The Proposals for Reform paper identifies 10 reform areas.

  • Setting a clear overall objective
  • Establishing resource sharing arrangements
  • Preparing harvest strategies
  • Strengthening access entitlements
  • Developing engagement and governance arrangements
  • Preparing management plans
  • Ensuring fisheries compliance
  • Obtaining knowledge and information
  • Reviewing funding arrangements
  • Deactivating resource rents for existing commercial fisheries
