Victoria’s Solar Energy Industry
The Victorian Government is supporting Victorian businesses to capture emerging opportunities – new jobs, technologies and markets – flowing from a low carbon economy.
The increased uptake of small-scale solar photovoltaic systems, supported by Victoria’s premium and solar feed-in tariffs, is already providing a stimulus for the sustainable growth of Victoria’s solar PV industry.
The establishment of a Medium Scale Solar Working Group will allow Government to identify current barriers to investment in the sector and the additional measures required to encourage the use of solar energy across the State.
Further support for large-scale solar is expected to result in the construction of multiple large plants across Northern Victoria, providing significant new opportunities for regional employment and investment.
To help streamline the development of renewable energy projects the Victorian Government has established a Green Door for Renewable Energy. This is already assisting proponents in navigating the planning and application process.
The Victorian Government also understands the importance of supporting industry through Research and Development into innovative, new renewable technologies. The Government is therefore re-allocating uncommitted funds within the Energy Technology Innovation Strategy (ETIS). This will provide competitive grants for renewable energy plants and technology projects at the pilot and research and development stages.
