Science and Research - Energy

A man assembles an electronic board

Victoria has extensive brown coal reserves, making it a low cost option for our electricity. However its use becomes more problematic as we move to reduce carbon emissions.

Overcoming this challenge requires leadership from Government and a well-coordinated approach, working with researchers and industry to ensure the success of new, low-emission energy technologies - these include renewable energy options and innovative technologies for cleaner use of coal and gas.

The Government supports technologies likely to be the most practical, commercial, cost effective and attractive to investors.
