Simple Energy Saving Actions
If every Victorian household undertook some simple energy savings measures, as a state we could save up to 3 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Here we list the top 10 things Victorian households can do to save money, energy and reduce carbon emissions:
- Install or top-up insulation in ceilings
- Switch off the second fridge
- Take shorter showers – keep them under 4 minutes instead of the 8 minute average
- Switch appliances off at the power point wherever possible
- Set thermostat to 18-20 degrees Celsius in winter and 26 degrees Celsius in summer
- Wash clothes in cold water
- Close off areas that don’t need heating in winter
- Replace standard light globes with energy efficient globes in high use areas
- Seal draughts and gaps around external doors and windows
- Switch off lights when not needed.
