Permits and operational approvals

The Earth Resources Regulation Branch is responsible for onshore and State waters:

  • Tenement administration;
  • Operational approvals;
  • Regulation of work sites; and
  • Compliance and enforcement.
A variety of approvals are required before companies can conduct work, which can be assessed by either our tenement officers or operational advisers.

The Draft Greenhouse Gas Sequestration Community Consultation Guidelines provides advice on the preparation of a consultation plan under the Greenhouse Gas Geological Sequestration Act 2008.

Greenhouse Gas Storage in Commonwealth waters (those greater than 3 nautical miles from the coast) is regulated by the Commonwealth Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism
