DPI was seen to have a strong role to play in community engagement.

Earth resources companies want DPI to act as an industry advocate and/or community educator.

Community wants DPI to act as their representative and mediator should any issues arise.

What does the revised strategy look like?

3 priority areas: Industry, Stakeholder, ERR

Under each priority area, there are 3 objectives

Each objective has a series of actions

Strategy Objectives - Industry Priority

Provide industry with the tools to effectively engage with communities

Recognise and promote excellence in community engagement practices

Monitor and audit industry community engagement processes to measure compliance

Strategy Objectives – Stakeholder Priority

Develop a more targeted and strategic approach to stakeholder engagement

Strengthen relationships with targeted groups of stakeholders to respond to their concerns.

Provide stakeholders, including industry bodies, government agencies and local communities, with clear and accessible information about the earth resources sector and how it is regulated.

Strategy Objectives – ERR Priority

Help staff develop a better understanding of what their role is in stakeholder engagement.

Provide staff with the skills, tools and information necessary to enable them to respond to stakeholder interest.

Identify opportunities to better equip staff to positively influence stakeholder engagement outcomes
