Earth Resources Regulation Branch

Responsibilities

The Earth Resources Regulation Branch is committed to:

  • Providing a consistent, transparent and secure tenement administration regime for the mineral, petroleum, extractive and geothermal industries;
  • Providing environmental standards, monitoring and enforcement to ensure that industry operations meet community expectations;
  • Working in partnership with industry and other agencies to provide leadership in regulatory implementation and reform.

The Earth Resources Regulation Branch is responsible for the administration and regulation of sites covered by the following legislation:

  • Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990
  • Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (C'lth)
  • Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1982
  • Petroleum Act 1998
  • Pipelines Act 2005
  • Geothermal Energy Resources Act 2005
