Guidelines and Procedures for Managing the Environmental Impacts of Weeds on Public Land in Victoria
Pest plants and animals are a major concern for both private land and water managers and Government in Victoria. They represent one of the most significant threats to economic productivity and to environmental values in Victoria.
To assist public land managers the Department of Sustainability and Environment have published Guidelines and Procedures for Managing the Environmental Impacts of Weeds on Public Land in Victoria 2007. The Guidelines provide a decision-support system to enable public land managers to prioritise locations and resources for weed management.
Victorian Pest Management – A Framework for Action
The Victorian Pest Management – A Framework for Action (VPMF) was the first of its kind in Victoria. It was developed in 2002 to provide the strategic direction for the management of declared and potential pests. Importantly, it also identified the key actions, responsibilities, timelines and partnerships required. The VPMF is currently under review.
The VPMF was one of the steps the Victorian Government took to achieve the Growing Victoria Together vision for 2010. The vision sees Victoria as a State where protecting the environment for future generations is built into everything we do.
As part of the VPMF, specific management strategies were developed for weeds, rabbits, wild dogs, foxes, feral pigs and feral goats and public land management.
