Discharge monitoring sites in the Wimmera Catchment
There are five discharge monitoring sites in the Wimmera Catchment.
The site that is presented in detail on this website is located at Concongella on the sedimentary rises Land Management Unit (LMU). This LMU is distributed throughout the upper catchment and consists of low hills and undulating rises and is rated as a high priority for groundwater recharge control by the Wimmera salinity management plan.
Three sites, Gerang Gerung, Tarranyurk West and Drung, are on the Flat Grey Plains LMU. This LMU forms the natural floodplain of the Wimmera River and is where the majority of salinity occurs within the Wimmera. It is rated as a high priority area in the Wimmera salinity management plan (SMP).
The fifth site is located at Pomonal on the Grampians alluvial plain LMU. This LMU consists of an elevated plain with yellow duplex soils of low fertility and poor structure and has a very high priority for salinity risk in the Wimmera SMP.
See Discharge monitoring program in Victoria for further information.
