Sweet Briar (Rosa rubiginosa) (Nox)

Scientific name: Rosa rubiginosa L. (Synonym R. eglanteria)

Common Name: Sweet Briar, Briar rose, Wild rose.

Status: Regionally Controlled in the North Central, Wimmera, Glenelg-Hopkins, Corangamite, Port Phillip & Westernport (East and West), Goulburn Broken, North East, East Gippsland and West Gippsland CMAs.
Restricted in the Mallee CMA.

Habitat: Humid and sub-humid cool-temperate regions, where it is usually confined to areas receiving more than 600 mm of annual rainfall or to moist gullies and protected sites where rainfall is lower (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). It invades open unimproved grasslands and disturbed bushlands, showing no preference for soil type, although it seldom establishes on light sands or poorly drained sites (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). Sweet Briar invades lowland grassland and grassy woodland, dry sclerophyll forest, damp sclerophyll forest, riparian vegetation, and alpine and subalpine vegetation (Carr et al 1992).
