Mexican Feather Grass (Tussock Grass) (Nassella tenuissima) (Nox)

Scientific name: Nassella tenuissima (Trin.) Barkworth

Common name: Mexican feather grass, Tussock grass

Status: State Prohibited Weed.

Habitat: It is a species with a wide climatic and habitat range (Jacobs et al 1998). Prefers fertile, well-drained soil, but tolerates a wide range of conditions, from heavy clay to sandy soils, as long as the soil dries out between waterings, and full sun or partial shade (Greenlea 1992). It occurs in open rocky slopes, grasslands, open dry woods (including semi-arid woodlands), highlands and sometimes alpine meadows (Greenlea 1992, Hitchcock 1950, Jacobs et al 1998, Moretto and Distel 1998).
