Common name:

Black knapweed, common knapweed, lesser knapweed

Status:

State Prohibited Weed.

Habitat:

Subhumid and cool temperate regions. In Victoria it is confined to a few locations occurring on roadsides and in pastures on fertile soils where annual rainfall is more than 750 mm. Cultivation can spread black knapweed.
