Status:

Regionally Prohibited in the Port Phillip & Westernport (East & West) CMA.
Regionally Controlled in the North East and East Gippsland CMAs.
Restricted in the Mallee, North Central, Wimmera, Glenelg-Hopkins, Corangamite, Goulburn Broken and West Gippsland CMAs.

Habitat:

Warm-temperate regions typically in areas receiving less than 450 mm annual rainfall, usually on sandy but sometimes heavier calcareous soils (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). It commonly occurs on pastures, roadsides and neglected areas (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). Stemless thistle invades mallee shrubland and lowland grassland and grassy woodland (Carr
et al 1992).
