Scientific name: Cirsium acarna (L.) Moench.

Common name: Soldier thistle

Status: Regionally Prohibited in the North Central and Port Phillip & Westernport (East & West) CMAs.
Regionally Controlled in the Goulburn Broken and North East CMAs.
Restricted in the Mallee, Wimmera, Glenelg-Hopkins, West Gippsland and East Gippsland CMAs.

Habitat: Semi-arid to subhumid areas of temperate regions on dry sandy or stony soils (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). It is a weed of roadsides, channel banks, neglected areas and occasionally cereal crops and pastures in areas with an annual rainfall of 300 to 600 mm and relatively long growing season (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992).
