Status:

Regionally Prohibited in the Wimmera, Corangamite and West Gippsland CMAs.
Regionally Controlled in the Mallee, North Central, Glenelg-Hopkins, Port Phillip & Westernport (East and West), Goulburn Broken and North East CMAs.
Restricted in the East Gippsland CMA.

Habitat:

Temperate regions, usually on fertile soils, occurring as weeds of cultivation, grazing land and undeveloped areas subject to summer rainfall, flooding or irrigation (Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). Noogoora and California burr also occur in wasteland, along roadsides, on rail embankments and extend into semi-arid areas by keeping close proximity to water courses (Hocking and Liddle 1995, Parsons and Cuthbertson 1992). They invade indigenous communities, including areas covered with bladder salt bush, mulga scrub and river red gum and yellow box stands (Hocking and Liddle 1995).
