Swamp Crassula

Scientific Name:	Crassula helmsii
Other Common Name:	Swamp Stonecrop
Status:	Native to the southern states of Australia and New Zealand
Plant Description:	Perennial aquatic or semi-aquatic herb with decumbent branches to 12 cm long and rooting at the nodes. Leaves linear to narrowly elliptic, 3-18 mm long, acute to acuminate, flat above and very convex below. Flowers arising singly from one leaf axil of every second leaf pair on alternate sides of terminal branches. Flowers white and tinged red with four pointed, spreading or recurved petals or lobes 1-2 mm long
Habitat:	Grows along the banks of rivers and creeks and around lakes and swamps from freshwater to saline environments.
Comments:	Displays good tolerance of temporary or prolonged flooding and high salt. Similar to the very widespread Sieber Crassula or Austral Stonecrop (C. sieberiana) which differs in having branched flower stalks arising from both leaf axils of each pair.
