Scientific Name:Brassica tournefortii


Status:


Native to Europe. Naturalised over much of mainland Australia.


Plant Description:


Annual with a long taproot, erect and branched stems to 60 cm high and bristly at the base. Basal leaves with 4-10 pairs of irregularly toothed lateral lobes, densely bristly underneath. Flowers pale yellow fading to white with petals 5-8 mm long. Fruit erect, 3-7 mm long (including a beak) and 2-3 mm wide and constricted between each seed. Flowering Spring to Autumn.


Habitat:


A common weed in the Mallee but occasionally found elsewhere as a crop weed. Often found on the edges of samphire flats or even among samphire plants.
