Development Opportunities - Surface Water

To date, successful irrigated agriculture in Victoria has mainly centred on the Murray Darling Basin, where in the past few years there has been increasing interest in the expansion of high- value horticultural production. This is largely due to the implementation of a Salinity Management Plan from Nyah (near Swan Hill) to the South Australian border which has created an attractive climate for industry investment in sustainable irrigated agriculture.

The generalised map below indicates water transport corridors where there is potential for further irrigation development.
