Development Opportunities - Groundwater

Groundwater Reserves
Large volumes of groundwater exist in the Gippsland Region, particularly in the Latrobe Valley, and also in the south-west of the state. Areas lacking substantial groundwater reserves include the far north-east of the State and the region to the north and west of Port Phillip Bay.

Goulburn-Murray Rural Water Authority (external link)
There are large groundwater resources in the Murray Basin including the sub-basins such as the Goulburn, Broken, Ovens, Campaspe and Loddon. Throughout the Authority’s area 55,000 megalitres of groundwater is available for additional development.

Southern Rural Water Authority (external link)
Extensive groundwater resources occur in the Otway Basin and the Gippsland Basin and in the smaller Phillip and Westernport Basins. Overall 130,000 megalitres are available for additional extractions.

Wimmera-Mallee Rural Water Authority (external link)
Groundwater is used extensively along the border with South Australia. An estimated 5,000 megalitres is available for development in the Authority’s area.
