Victoria is well serviced by road, rail, sea and air transport. Significant rationalisation is occurring with privatisation of the electricity and gas industries. Victoria's irrigation system provides Victoria with a competitive edge and water-based infrastructure is being upgraded in key areas.

In November 2001, there were approximately 2.5 million persons in the Victorian labour force of which 2.3 million were employed.
