Place and Purpose

Spatial models for natural resource management and planning

May 30th and 31st 2007 at The Capital, Bendigo Victoria

Place and Purpose was a great success, with over 200 delegates attending 2 days of presentations, workshops, demonstrations and exhibits to present spatial tools and approaches for analysing natural, agricultural and urban landscapes to assist in decision-making.

Some feedback from the event suggests that Place & Purpose should become a biannual event, with the next Place & Purpose in 2009.

"Splendid display of tools and capabilities; excellent program with very clear theme"
"Presentation of many tools that are useful to NRM and landscape management"
"I would definitely attend this type of conference if it happened again in a couple of years"
"There is clearly interest in this broad science theme (landscape scale modelling for NRM) precious few other conferences in
Australia which service this need....you should think about running it every two years
"

A DVD of the presentations will be available shortly and will be mailed to all conference delegates along with a detailed list of delegate contact details.

For a copy of the Proceedings CD provided to all delegates at registration, or for a copy the DVD of presentations, contact Gemma Heemskerk on 03 8341 2422.

The links to the short abstracts and biographies of the presenters are still active, see below.

Place & Purpose Book
A special edition book to be published by Springer is also underway. Presenters at Place & Purpose will be shortly invited to prepare a full length paper. Date of publication is likely to be 2008 with a working title 'Landscape Analysis and Visualisation'. The book is part of the Springer series 'Lecture notes in Geoinformation and Cartography', designed to publish post-proceedings of thoroughly peer-reviewed final conference papers. For further information contact Dr. Chris Pettit on 03 8341 2407.
