| The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CARE) (external link) has been awarded a $30 million grant in the Australian Government's 2004 CRC Selection Round. The goal of this CRC is to develop a risk-based approach to remediation leading to improved regulatory acceptance of commercially viable and cost-effective solutions to environmental contamination. This is an opportunity to make a substantial contribution to science, the environment and the economy, not just in Australia but in the wider global community. In collaboration with industries and regulatory agencies, DPI scientists involved in the CRC CARE will undertake joint research and management for the safe disposal, modification or reuse of solid waste and effluent streams deriving from primary industries, enabling and developing pathway technologies for commercialisation. | ![]() |
