The South West Sustainability Partnership (SWSP) (external link) was established in August 1998. Through collective initiatives and effort designed to identify and implement processes for sustainable development in Southwestern Victoria. The fourteen foundation members include water, coast and catchment authorities, local councils, educational institutions and Government who all operate within the region. Within their own organisations all the partners are interested and involved in issues of sustainability in the context of development, catchment and land management, agriculture, food production, employment, community development, teaching, learning, research and natural resource management. |
The Glenelg-Hopkins Regional Catchment Strategy is available for download from the Glenelg-Hopkins Catchment Management Authority website (external link). This forms the framework for land, water and biodiversity management within the region.
The Glenelg-Hopkins Rural Drainage Strategy is available for download from the Glenelg-Hopkins Catchment Management Authority website (external link). The objectives of this are to clarify the management structure for drainage management and maintain a balance between draining land fro agricultural and maintaining healthy waterways.
A downloadable version of the former Land Conservation Council's final recommendations for the South-Western Area, District 1 Review (March 1983) (external link) are available for download from the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council's website. These provide an ongoing framework for public use of land in the South-Western Area, District 1 Area. The recommendations are grouped under major headings, such as Parks, Reference Areas, Wildlife Reserves, Bushland Reserves and so on. Key recommendations are for Discovery Bay Coastal Park, Dergholm State Park, and Crawford River Regional Park. The recommendations in the text have been edited to reflect government variations and amendments at the time of approval, and subsequent changes.
