Sites of Geological and Geomorphological Significance

This information has been developed from the publications:

Geological & Geomorphological Sites of Significance
Sites of Geological and Geomorphological Significance in the Corangamite Area
Sites of geological and geomorphological significance have been selected on the basis either that they represent a specific characteristic of the region, or that they include an outstanding, rare, or possibly unique geological or geomorphological feature. As such, these sites are of interest to people engaged in research and teaching in earth sciences and to others who wish to understand the composition, origin and dynamics of the physical landscape in this area. The sites shown here relate to the three reports by Neville Rosengren listed above - so information on sites of geological and geomorphological significance is not complete for the whole region.

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values.Reference should be made to the most recent reports. See the Earth Science Heritage (external link) section of the Geological Society of Australia website for details of geological heritage reports, and a bibliography.
