Better Fertiliser Decisions Project
The Better Fertiliser Decisions (BFD) project (2003-2007) was conducted to provide comprehensive information to improve fertiliser decisions for grazing industries. The BFD project compiled and interpreted results from pasture-fertiliser experiments and information on nutrient loss processes from all pastoral regions in Australia. | |
Information and results from the project are located at Australian Soil Resource Information System (external link).
Key results from the project are:
- Soil test – pasture response relationships and critical soil test values for phosphorus, potassium and sulfur, and
- The Farm Nutrient Loss Index (FNLI), a decision support tool to assess the risk of nutrient loss from the paddock to the off-farm environment in the format of a user-friendly computer program.
The project was funded by DPI Victoria, Dairy Australia, Meat and Livestock Australia, Land and Water Australia, National Land and Water Resource Audit and Canpotex with collaboration from Fertiliser Industry Federation of Australia (FIFA), Incitec-Pivot Limited, HiFert, CSBP, Impact Fertilisers, EPA Victoria, CSIRO and government departments in WA, SA, NSW, Qld and Tasmania.
