Approach taken: The project is taking a national approach in preparing the grains industry for EMS. It proposes a staged approach to EMS which links to quality assurance schemes (QA). The project is collaborating with the Department of Agriculture WA in relation to linking with QA.

EMS packages for each stage of EMS are being developed that have QA incorporated. Stage 1 is based on simple self-assessment, Stage 2 incorporates environmental review and action planning. Stage 3 and 4 are based on full ISO14001 EMS. All stages align with ISO14001 to ensure future compatability to international markets.
