Environmental Management Systems for Lamb and Sheepmeat Production (project completed)
Contact: Nick Linden and Kyra-Jane Huhn, DPI Rutherglen, ph. 02 6030 4500
Funded by: Meat & Livestock Australia, Victorian Department of Primary Industries
Approach taken: This project, which concludes in 2005, has aimed to develop an EMS framework for the lamb industry that is suitable for integration with future supply chain requirements. The 4 staged approach to EMS, developed through the Grains Reserach and Development Corporation (GRDC), was customised to suit the lamb industry for this project. The project was implemented through 2 grower groups - representing 2 supply chains; export and domestic markets.
This project refined and tested a pilot EMS that;
| 1) | addressed key environmental issues in south-eastern Australia |
| 2) | is practical for lamb producers |
| 3) | can be integrated with established QA (or operate independently) |
| 4) | can ensure flexible marketing of stock to the major supply chains |
