Areas shown on the map:
- Exploration Licences (applications are in italics)
- Moratorium Areas - Areas of land previously covered by an exploration licence, which will become available for licence application on the dates shown on the map.
- Areas Under Exemption - Areas exempt from being subjected to Exploration and/or Mining Licences. MR(SD)A 1990 Sec 7. May be revoked by notice in the Govt Gazette.
- Unavailable Areas - Areas unavailable for searching or exploration or mining MR(SD)A 1990 Sec 6. Includes National, State and Wilderness Parks and Reference areas.
Tenement GIS Datasets (All tenements) - Updated:04 September 2009
To obtain more up to date data, you can use the Datamart website which you can access via the Department's online mapping application, GeoVic.
- Go to the GeoVic homepage.
- Click the map of Victoria to launch GeoVic
- Click the "Download" tab and in the "Download Menu" click the "Download Data via Datamart" link.
- Agree to the terms and conditions of the download, enter your email addressand click the "I Accept Terms of Licence" button.
- Click the "Select to Order" checkbox for the "Minerals and Petroleum Current Tenements Data for the Datamart" product.
- Click the "Proceed to Order" button.
- In the Order Details page,(you may have to scrol up the page) choose "+1km" for Buffer Distance, A format and projection appropriate for your use and "Web Download" for Delivery Method.
- Click the "Apply to All" button.
- Click the "Submit" button.
- Check the details of the order and click the "Submit" button if everything is ok.
- You will receive an email with a link to the Datamart page.
- Once you've clicked the link enter your email address when requested and click the "Submit" button.
- With the File Download pop-up. choose the "Save" option to save the Zip file to your computer.

The files on this page are updated once a month.
The datasets are in geographic projection using Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994.
All the files are compressed zip files. Downloading of these files is on condition that you agree with the Licence Agreement.
NOTE: this is the last month that these files will be uploaded on this page. Please refer to the instructions above to download the data via Datamart.

Work Plan Endorsement and Approvals Report (PDF 148KB)
The Work Plan Endorsement and Approvals Report summarises the status of extractive industry, mineral exploration and mining work plans which have been lodged with the Earth Resources Regulation Branch of the Department of Primary Industries for assessment.
The Report is updated fortnightly and only includes information about work plans lodged after 1 May 2006.
Information about work plans which have been approved under the respective legislation will be removed from the report after three months.
