Welcome to the Minerals and Petroleum Web pages of the Department of Primary Industries Internet site.
The Earth Resources Division (ERD) (formerly MPD) is responsible for the promotion and regulation of the extractive, oil and gas, pipelines, geothermal energy, minerals exploration and mining industries in Victoria. Industry specific facilitation and development marketing services are provided, along with the maintenance of the State's historical geological database and the development of the additional state-of-the-art regional geological data.
ERD maintains an efficient licensing and permitting administration system to provide secure title for exploration, production and pipeline activities. We also ensure that industry environmental management standards meet community needs.
News: As of 2 February 2009, the Minerals and Petroleum Division of DPI has undergone a name change to become the Earth Resources Division. The Division was renamed to reflect its enhanced role in respect to geothermal and carbon storage (geosequestration) activities. These activities appear likely to become key aspects of Victoria's resource future.
A rebranding exercise is currently being undertaken. In the interim, some Divisional webpages and other documentation may still refer to the Minerals and Petroleum Division. |
