Go Fishing in Victoria
Go Fishing in Victoria and Catch a New Hobby
Now is the time to drop a line in the water and get hooked on fishing. Fishing is a great social activity for family and friends and a perfect way to explore Victoria’s wilderness and waterways.
Get away to the inland waters of Victoria and spend some time on the water's edge with your family, experiencing a new fun-filled activity.
As part of the Victorian Government's Moving Forward action plan for growth in Provincial Victoria, recreational fishing has been recognised as a major social and economic contributor to local economies.
In order to boost recreational fishing and tourism opportunities through the Go Fishing in Victoria initiative, 5 Premier Lakes are regularly stocked with 'ready-to-catch' fish and Family Fishing Events are frequently held to promote fishing as a family activity.
The Victorian Government is working closely with local councils, angling clubs, Fishcare volunteers and the Victorian Recreational Fishing peak body (VRFish) to implement this project.

2009 Go Fishing in Victoria Calendar
The new 2009 ‘Go Fishing in Victoria’ calendar is now available.
The theme of the 2009 Go Fishing in Victoria calendar is fish friendly farming. Each month has its own colour illustration depicting how farmers and the community help fish and fish habitat by protecting the environment in and around waterways and while fishing in adjacent rivers and lakes.
The calendar also lists important fishing dates in 2009 such as closed seasons for species such as trout, Murray cod and blackfish, and important farming dates such as key agricultural field days.
To obtain a free copy of the calendar visit your nearest DPI office, send an email to go.fishing@dpi.vic.gov.au which includes your postal address, or call the DPI Customer Service Centre on 136 186.
