Expansion of the marine and fisheries education programs through the Marine Discovery Centre

The Government has committed $1.2 million over four years to expand marine and fisheries education programs through the Marine Discovery Centre at Queenscliff.

A review of current programs and educational opportunities for schools and community groups will be integrated into existing regionally based fisheries educational programs.

Developments that have occurred as a result of this expansion include:
  • family fishing events aboard a charter vessel which are held every school holiday period with the support of Fishcare Geelong and District Inc.
  • Hosting the national Marine Discovery Centre network conference
  • displays and involvement at a number of local and festivals and events including:
    - Portarlington Mussel Festival (January)
    - Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea (March)
    - Queenscliff Seafood Feast (April).
