Draft Stream Classification Model

Fisheries Victoria has worked with members of the Victorian Recreational Fishing Peak Body (VRFish) on behalf of the recreational fishing community to prepare a model which can be used by Fishery managers to classify all rivers, streams and impoundments across Victoria as either ‘salmonid’, ‘native’, or ‘mixed’ fisheries.

The model will initially be applied to rivers, streams and impoundments of North East Victoria (as defined by the North East Catchment Management Authority boundaries) in line with the ‘North East Fishery Management Plan’.

Classification of this region will be the first step in a statewide application of the model.

The Victorian Stream Classification Model will be an important part of fisheries management in Victoria for the next ten years.

The development of the model is in line with Fisheries Victoria’s commitment to secure, grow and share potential benefits from Victoria’s inland fisheries with the wider community.

The Stream Classification Committee is seeking your comments in relation to the issues raised in the draft model. Please provide a written response to the Draft Stream Classification Model by Tuesday 30 September 2008 to:

Duncan Hill
Fisheries Project Officer
