Registered training provider for primary producers

Overview

AgTrain is part of DPI's Farm Services Victoria (FSV) and is a private Registered Training Organisation (RTO 3876 - Department of Primary Industries, Knoxfield).

AgTrains' mission is to support agricultural industries adopt best practice by providing high quality education and training services that are based on the latest science and technology.

AgTrain works with DPI research and extension staff to provide training courses designed to illustrate the application of the latest research information to producers and landholders. All our staff are experienced in effective adult learning and facilitation skills.

Where possible, DPI seeks to fit its training programs within national competencies accredited by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and Industry Training Boards.

General Training Courses
Examples of the topics we are currently accredited to deliver are:

  • Postharvest Handling (for fresh horticultural produce; this can also include Fresh Food Safety training)
  • Plant Protection (Integrated Pest Management)
  • AgVet Chemical Users Course
  • Chemical Risk Management
  • Environmental Management Systems
  • Waste Management (for councils and tip operators concerned about the potential spread of pathogens from composted or treated materials)
  • Soil and Water Management
  • 1080 Pest Animal Bait Endorsement

Research to PracticeTM Viticulture
This national flagship program for the wine and grape industry was developed through DPI and the viticulture industry in conjunction with the Australian Wine Research Institute Ltd. All programs are delivered under licence.

Delivery is focussed on adult training workshops that foster industry and producer interaction, feedback and hands-on sessions.

Adoption of new practices is facilitated through the use of assessment exercises that require workshop participants to critically evaluate new practices in their own workplace, report back on the findings and develop ongoing action plans.

  • Customised group training - AgTrain can organise accredited training courses on behalf of external and internal clients, particularly industry groups

  • AgTrain is approved to deliver courses under the Victorian Skills Commission Priority Education and Training Program (PETP) funding arrangements
  • AgTrain partners with Goulburn Ovens Skills Store (GOSS) to support Recognition of Prior Learning and skills into vocational qualifications
Facilities
DPI Knoxfield has a state of the art Training and Conference Centre that has been carefully designed with maximum comfort and flexibility in mind. This modern centre incorporates a theatrette, training laboratory, function rooms, seminar and syndicate rooms, trade display or workshop display area, kitchen and bar facilities. Training workshops or courses are run in this centre or at another mutually agreed location selected by the person or group arranging the training.
