Victoria dominates Australia’s dairy industry producing 64 per cent of the total national output and almost 85 per cent of dairy exports. Dairying accounts for more than 40 per cent of Victoria’s food exports and generates around 20 per cent of employment in dairying regions.
In 2000, Victorian dairy exports were valued at $2.3 billion.
Victoria’s heavy focus on export markets means farm-gate milk prices in Victoria are dependent on international dairy product prices. | |
