Promoting Victorian produce: The North-East, including Milawa and the High Country

Renowned for its world-class wines and gourmet food, the North-East region of Victoria is characterised by a diverse climate and topography

In recent years it has added olives, nuts and cherries to its stable of meat, crops and fruit.

Livestock is by far the largest industry in the region and gourmet meats are produced in abundance, with beef making up the largest proportion of the livestock industry.

  • Agriculture in the North-East contributes more than $274 million to the economy each year
  • The North-East boasts a $100 million cattle industry
  • Crop production is also important to the region, and valued at $100 million each year
  • The region is home to one of the biggest cherry suppliers in Australia
  • Nut production in the North-East is valued at more than $3 million each year, and significant quantities of chestnuts are exported to Asia
