Wine Industry Leadership Program
The Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC), in partnership with the Victorian Department of Primary Industries’ Grapecheque program and Rural Training Initiatives, has developed and is delivering a four-year leadership project as part of a wider initiative to build the next generation of wine industry leaders.
A key part of the project is a three-day short course designed for people of all ages working at the local and regional level in all facets of the industry including winemaking, viticulture, administration, cellar door and marketing. This is being delivered in nine regions across Australia over the next three years. Year one of the project has seen three short courses held in Victoria in 2006/07 and 27 people have graduated. There are plans to run more courses in other states in years two and three.
Evaluation for year one has shown that the Wine Industry Leadership Program has had positive outcomes for the industry. It has increased the capacity, skills, networks and confidence of participants which has impacted at personal, business and regional levels.
