Ordering Visual NLIS (Sheep & Goats) Ear Tags

Visually readable NLIS Sheep & Goats Tags are not ordered through DPI. To obtain visually readable NLIS Sheep & Goats Tags contact your preferred tag supplier or rural merchandise outlet. This list of approved sheep tag manufacturers (PDF 36Kb).

Steps to ordering visual NLIS (Sheep & Goats) Ear Tags

1. Choose an approved manufacturer from the authorised NLIS (Sheep) tag manufacturer list.
2. Place orders with either your local rural merchandiser or direct with the tag manufacturer.

Information required by tag manufacturers

a.	Your name, address and telephone number
b.	Property Identification Code
c.	Tag Type required (NLIS Sheep Breeder tag or NLIS Sheep Post-breeder tag)
d.	Style of tag required
e.	Number of tags required
f.	Serial numbers (optional)
g.	Sheep vaccinated against Ovine Johne's disease: All sheep vaccinated against Ovine Johne's disease (OJD)
h.	(OJD) must be identified with a capital `V' on the opposite side of the ear tag to the PIC and NLIS logo.
i.	Store terminal lambs: Producers affected by Ovine Johne's disease are required to identify terminal lambs with an ear tag with a capital `T' on the opposite side of the tag to the PIC and NLIS logo prior to selling them.

Ordering Electronic NLIS (Sheep) Tags

Electronic NLIS (Sheep) tags are available using DPI's On-line tag ordering service or by completing the paper application form (PDF 81kb). Have the information as outlined above for visual tag orders on hand to place your order of electronic tags. Tags cost $1.00 plus a postage fee per order.

Information required for ordering Electronic NLIS (Sheep) tags on-line

a. Your name, address and telephone number

b. Property Identification Code

c. Tag Type required (NLIS Sheep Breeder tag or NLIS Sheep Post-breeder tag)

d. Select the colour of the tag pin. Producers order NLIS (Sheep) Breeder tags can select from a full range of tag pin colours. At this point in time, only pink tag pins are available for use with electronic NLIS (Sheep) Post-breeder tags.

e. Number of tags required

f. Serial numbers (optional). The last 5 digits of the NLIS number can be specified. This number could be used for flock management.

g. Property or stud name (optional). Producers can request that their enterprise, property or stud name be printed on the pin.

h. Sheep vaccinated against Ovine Johne's Disease (OJD) . Producers can request that be printed on the pint for tags that are to be used to identify sheep vaccinated against OJD.

i. Store terminal lambs: Producers can also request that be printed on the pin if tags are to be used to identify terminal (crossbred) lambs from OJD affected flocks.
