Rises in forested-hills, then flows through farmland, gravel bed. Contains mostly brown trout to 450g and some rainbow trout to 220g. Can have a low flow in summer. Best fishing in spring with worms the best bait. Self-sustaining trout population, not stocked.

Called the Nariel Creek upstream of the junction of Simpson Creek.

A wide, shallow creek with exposed rubble banks, flowing through farmland. During summer, the river is 8-20m wide with gutters and pools up to 120cm deep at the Omeo Road turn-off. Substrate is gravel and rubble. Some bank erosion and sedimentation downstream. Contains brown trout to 500g, some rainbow trout to 500g, blackfish, some redfin, mountain galaxias, southern pygmy perch, Murray spiny crayfish and used to contain Murray cod. Small tributary streams (Rawes, Star and Jones Creeks) have large numbers of small brown trout. Self-sustaining trout population, not stocked.

Rises in forest then flows through farmland, gravel rock and mud bed. A wide river (15m) in the lower reaches, with extensive lengths of pools up to 200cm deep, and riffles to 50cm. Some bank erosion and riparian willow trees in the farmland section but good instream habitat. Wading is difficult but there is good bank fishing. Contains mostly brown trout to 900g (av. 480g), some rainbow trout to 450g, abundant blackfish, occasional redfin, mountain galaxias and broad-finned galaxias. Also contains Murray cod and reported (pre 1991) to carry trout cod in the middle reaches. Has previously been stocked with Murray cod.

Rises in forested mountains and flows swiftly down a steep gradient to Lake Hume, gravel and granite rock substrate. A narrow stream in the upper reaches and access requires local knowledge. Carries brown trout to 1.2kg but mostly small fish, some rainbow trout to 300g in the headwaters, blackfish, redfin, broad-finned galaxias, Murray spiny crayfish, mountain galaxias and possibly some trout cod. Has previously been stocked with trout cod.

 


Limestone Creek, Headwater of Indi River J 16

Flows through high plains country with snow grass and patches of timber. The only vehicle access is where the Benambra-Black Mountain Road crosses the stream. Contains many small brown trout and rainbow trout av. 100g. Self-sustaining trout population, not stocked.

Nariel Creek

Upper reaches of Corryong Creek are called Nariel Creek.

Flows through forest, then farmland, gravel bed. Contains mostly brown trout to 800g, rainbow trout (100g in spring, reaching 250g by the following autumn), small blackfish, occasional redfin, some Murray spiny crayfish and mountain galaxias. Reported to be an excellent angling water for all fishing methods. Self-sustaining trout population, not stocked.

 


Thowgla Creek, Corryong I 6

Rises in forest, then flows through farmland, gravel bed. Contains mostly brown trout to 850g (av. 300g), rainbow trout to 220g, blackfish to 130g, small redfin, Australian smelt and mountain galaxias. Self-sustaining trout population, not stocked.

 


Walwa Creek, Guys Forest F 3

A small creek flowing through forest and farmland. Carries brown trout to 400g and provides limited fishing for locals. Becomes very low in summer. Self-sustaining trout population, not stocked.
