Queensland Fruit Fly
Queensland fruit fly (QFF) is a destructive pest which can infest many varieties of fruit and vegetables.
Despite Government and industry’s best efforts to eradicate QFF from Victoria, populations have established in many parts of the state. As a result, DPI has changed its management strategy for QFF. Existing regulations have been streamlined and fruit movement requirements simplified through the establishment of two fruit fly suspension zones, which will reduce regulatory burden on affected businesses within these regions. DPI has also ceased its QFF suppression and control activities on residential properties outside of the Greater Sunraysia Pest Free Area (PFA). The PFA will remain a priority area where QFF eradication efforts will continue under the oversight of a new industry chaired management committee.
Residents and producers can treat QFF on their property like any other pest. A wide range of products are available from nursery, chemical resellers and hardware stores to control flies and protect fruit from damage.
Your support will help prevent the spread of fruit fly and protect Victoria's multi-million dollar fruit and vegetable industries.
