Grain Production Estimates
October 2011 crop estimates

Final winter crop results are tracking towards an overall increase in canola production across Victoria but less wheat, barley, oats and triticale. It is expected that overall tonnage will drop from nearly 7.1 million tonnes in 2010 to about 6.2 million tonnes in 2011.
- Wheat is expected to drop by more than half a million tonnes, with a yield of 3.1 million tonnes forecast (from 1.6 million ha planted).
- Barley production is estimated to fall by more than 400,000 tonnes.
- Oat production is likely to drop by more than 100,000 tonnes.
- Pulse estimates are similar to 2010 for faba beans, chickpeas and field peas but slightly increased on lentils, which are expected to rise from 129,000 tonnes last season to 137,000 tonnes this year.
Final results will be dependant on good finishing rains and a dry harvesting period. Estimates are provided in the table below.
