Setting up a Live Export NLIS Database Account - a Step by Step Guide

Note Number: AG1226
Published: June 2006
Updated: January 2010

The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) database is operated by NLIS Ltd1. It holds the register of NLIS devices including microchip (RFID) and associated NLIS ID numbers, transaction records, residue, disease and market access status information for NLIS identified cattle. This agnote provides a step by step guide to setting up a Live Exporter account on the NLIS database.

Accessing the NLIS Database

Live Exporters - this includes operators of quarantine properties/depots and their associated agents - must register as an NLIS database user on the NLIS website and obtain a user ID and password in order to transfer cattle on the NLIS database.

Live Cattle Export agents who do not have a single operating PIC (i.e. they use a number of properties for agistment, quarantine, feedlotting, etc.) can apply to DPI for an Agent PIC. This PIC can then be used to register for a live exporter account on the NLIS database. For operators of quarantine properties/depots the PIC of the property can be used to apply for the database account. To apply for an Agent PIC please contact the Victoria DPIs toll-free NLIS Helpline on 1800 678 779 during business hours.
