National Livestock Identification System
The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) is Australia's system for identifying and tracking beef and dairy cattle, sheep and goats. The Victorian Government and the livestock industry are working together to implement the NLIS, which will enable livestock to be identified and tracked from their property of birth to slaughter. This will protect the reputation of Victoria's livestock industry as a supplier of 'clean' meat and dairy products, providing a competitive advantage in domestic and export markets.
From 1/07/2010 Victorian horse properties require a Property Identification Code (PIC). If you already have a PIC for your property and would like to ensure it covers horses please send an email quoting your PIC to nlis.victoria@dpi.vic.gov.au. To apply for a new PIC please complete the application form for a Property Identification Code (Horses).
For information about applying for a PIC or ordering NLIS Cattle or Sheep tags please call the DPI Help Line on 1800 678 779.
