Environmental Management Action Planning (EMAP)
Over the past four years more than 200 farming businesses in the Mallee region have completed Environmental Management Action Planning (EMAP) for their farm.
In 2010 EMAP is running in the following areas:
- Millewa/Carwarp
- Underbool
- Wemen to Piambie
- Lindsay Point/Lake Cullulleraine
About EMAP
EMAP will help you identify your farm’s environmental assets and issues, assess risks to these assets, and develop a plan to protect and enhance the environment that supports your business.
Throughout your participation in EMAP you will:
- receive visits to your farm by EMAP staff
- attend a series of workshops
- develop a network with other landholders in your region
- map actions required on your property to achieve Best Management Practice in production and natural resource management
- consider other business related issues such as: succession planning, occupational health and safety and climate change.
There are currently two EMAP programs running in the Mallee, one for dryland farmers and one for irrigators (iEMAP).
Whats involved
Participants complete a self assessment to determine knowledge gaps and identify learning needs and then attend up to three local workshops. Presentations are given by technical experts on identified topics and participants are encouraged to discuss and consolidate their knowledge at the workshops. Maps and action plans are developed for each individual property.
The Self Assessment Tools can be found at www.malleecma.vic.gov.au
