What we do

DPI’s Dairy Services Branch has a flexible approach to working with dairy farmers and offers a wide range of programs and products, often in partnership with other rural service providers. We provide advice and support to work with farmers to build a resilient dairy industry.

From programs lasting several days to discussion and impact groups, field days, workshops and on farm visits; there is always something happening.

We offer services in feed base management, animal management, irrigation management, farm business management, adaptation to change (climate variability, water availability), sustainable land management, and emergency management.

All projects of the Dairy Services Branch are based on the following principals of DPI’s Better Services to Farmers Strategy:

• DPI will target services to achieve greatest benefit for Victoria
• DPI funding will be focused on public benefit with industry funding supporting industry benefits
• DPI will consider who is best placed (in terms of efficiency & effectiveness) to deliver services, on a case-by-case basis
• DPI will not compete with effective private providers or community groups
• DPI will aim to grow the capability of our staff and the service provider sector as a whole
• DPI will manage key risks in delivering the Better Services to Farmers strategy

Our funders

DPI’s Dairy Services Branch also obtains funding from Department of Sustainability and Environment, Catchment Management Authorities, Water Authorities, and Dairy Australia.
