30 Day Moving SOI

The SOI has been hovering within the +/- 8 range indicating normal behaviour of the Walker Circulation and neutral Pacific Ocean conditions. Pressure is normal at Darwin and Tahiti.

Southern Annular Mode Graph from 28 Feb 2011 - 27 June 2011

The Southern Annular Mode has spent some time weakly positive and strongly negative in the 30 days.

Satalite diagram pf high pressures over victoria

High Pressures over Victoria have averaged out at a close to normal latitude in the last 30 days. A favourable longitude for southern Victoria existed but not for the north.

The equatorial Pacific Ocean SST’s are neutral. The Indian Ocean off southern WA is still warmer. The Timor and Arafura Seas continue to cool.

Statalite graph of cloud activity

Victoria has seen slightly less cloud for the last 30 days. Cloud has returned to normal near the dateline at the equator, signifying neutral conditions. There has been a slight lack of cloud in much of the tropical Indian Ocean.
