The Port Campbell discussion group enjoyed a great night at their 45th annual discussion group dinner held on Friday February 4 at the Timboon Distillery.

There was lots of talk about the old days and also some discussion about planning a special event for their 50th annual dinner.

The highlight of the night was after-dinner presentation given by Peter Younis from The Vet Group, Timboon. Peter spoke of the times he has travelled as a vet on dairy heifer live export ships. The audience was entertained as Peter described some of the antics of his fellow crew members. Peter also explained where some of the Australian dairy heifers are taken. Peter described a particular dairy farm in Saudi Arabia located in the middle of the desert and which is the size of a small town. Many in the audience were surprised that in general people on this dairy farm only had one task to complete, therefore not having the range of skills Australian dairy farmers have. Peter also gave the group a quick insight into the dairy industries in Pakistan and Sudan.

The success of the Port Campbell discussion group in 2010 was due to the generous contribution of many people and these people were thanked on the night.

Everyone had an enjoyable time. The dinner was a great way of catching up with old friends and meeting new members. The group is looking forward to another successful year in 2011. If you would like to find out more about discussion groups in your area, contact Janet Sloan on 55619906.
