Milking the Weather

Seasonal and climate risk information for the dairy industry

Volume 2 Issue 3 September 2011

As we move into spring, we wonder what lies ahead. Are we still in neutral conditions or are we going to be a state of sodden land? Are we going to need our gumboots and canoes or will we be able to frolic in the sunshine and enjoy all the giddiness that spring brings?

Although some areas received below average rainfall for winter, the full soil moisture profile before the winter season has reminded those in the southern parts of Victoria how challenging wet conditions can be. The seasonal outlook on page two, will enlighten us on the model’s predictions for spring.

Why the change of editor?

Zita has decided to temporarily leave cold and rainy Warrnambool for the hot, dry Kenyan coast. For the next year Zita will volunteer as an Agricultural Officer with the Red Cross through the Australian Youth Ambassador for Development program.

With Zita heading off to her new Indian Ocean home, someone closer to the Pacific Ocean will take over the editorship of Milking the Weather.

Based in Maffra, Bree Walshe is the new editor.

We wish Zita all the best on her African journey
