Gippsland - How Now Gippy Now - May 2010 Edition
YDDP meets the gene geniuses
The West Gippsland Young Dairy Development Program (YDDP) group and a couple of new faces took a bus trip to visit the Bacchus Marsh head office of Genetics Australia in April.
Genetics Australia staff toured the group around the semen collection arena and visited the specialised bull housing facilities. The group enjoyed walking among many of the famous bulls that have the best pedigrees for Australian conditions.
From there it was to the semen processing and storage area where more than 60 per cent of Australia’s artificial breeding needs are met. The tour allowed the group to see many aspects of AI technology as well as hear from engaging speakers and see
demonstrations. There was plenty of discussion and the group agreed it was a great day out.
