Gippsland - How Now Gippy Now - June 2010 Edition
YDDP is for everyone
In the last 12 months the Young Dairy Development Program (YDDP) has delivered 21 events across Gippsland with an average attendance of 25 people per event and a website averaging 1,500 hits per month.
Its success is due to the young people on the committees based at Fish Creek, Maffra and Warragul. They plan out the activities and events they want and work with YDDP’s Kylie Barry to deliver them.
Many events are also interesting to farmers and service providers who are not part of YDDP.
YDDP always emphasises that its activities are open for everyone to come along. A great example is the dinner meeting last year about the impact of the world financial crisis on the dairy industry. Over 100 people attended the Warragul session and the average age was about 55. YDDP was delighted to have put on an event that was useful to so many people.
Another example is the business expo run in Traralgon in early June. The content of the day was developed by the three YDDP committees and topics included sharefarmer and lessee agreements, how to sort good advice from bad, five top OH&S risks, land value and negotiating to buy a farm. Kylie worked with GippsDairy and Dairy Australia to deliver the day and many non YDDP people came along because of the quality and range of information.
YDDP is proud of its achievements over the last year and caters for people at very different stages of their dairy careers from young part time staff to owners employing managers and sharefarmers.
The three YDDP committees have organised more great activities for West Gippsland, South Gippsland and the MID for this year and everyone is welcome to attend.
YDDP is supported by United Dairyfarmers of Victoria, National Centre for Dairy Education Australia-GOTAFE, Dairy Australia, Fonterra Australia, Murray Goulburn Co-op Ltd, and Warrnambool Cheese & Butter Factory Co Ltd.
